About the Business
Located near Truro, this timber framed house has taken a lead from the site that it is built upon. The property stands in the grounds of a woodland and as such the obvious decision was to construct and to finish the property in timber and to construct a green roof. The whole design and build process was also aimed at minimising the impact of the build on the site and neighbours. The timber frame utilises techniques that are used in Canada on new builds and retrofits to extremely high energy standards. An ordinary timber frame was constructed with 90mm studs, and then wrapped in a non-structural timber framework which was filled with 300mm of insulation. The external cladding to the walls and roof is then added. The house is heated through solar panels, and an extremely efficient wood boiler such that 70% of the heat is transferred into a thermal store, which is then used to provide hot water and heating, which is seldomly required.
