Local Architect Stuart Palmer of FOD Ltd, Architects, based in Ampthill has won a prestigious Royal Institute of British Architects award in the best Domestic Extension/ Refurbishment category beating off tough competition.
The awards ceremony for the Design and Craftsmanship Awards 2011, held at Bedford School, was lucky enough to be attended by speaker and multi-award-winning international Architect, Ted Cullinan, who presented the award.
The project awarded best in category is a Grade II listed property, which made the project all the more challenging. The building is located in the middle of Ampthill on a prominent position in Dunstable Street adjacent to the Limes development. It was extensively remodelled to the side and rear to create an additional bedroom, enlarged living space and kitchen with vaulted ceilings and large areas of glass to the garden elevation bringing the 'outside, in', forming a pleasing and useful addition to this listed property.
